MILTON IN AT NUMBER 58

Keeping company with some of his own sporting heroes, Michael Milton came in at number 58 on Alpha Magazine's recently published list of Australia's 101 Best Sports Stars of Our Time.
Thrilled to be even on the same page as the likes of Tim Horan, Evonne Goolagong, Andrew Gaze and James Hird, Milton didn't even know about the accolade until a friend sent him an email.
'I was quite surprised really,' said Milton. 'I was definitely interested in who the top 57 were (we even ran a little family competition before we looked) but I was much more interested in who they put after me. It's like a who's who of Australian sport and it's very cool that at least Alpha's editor thinks I'm better than one-namers like Gregan, Bertrand, Hayden and Gardner. I have to say I took a lot of pleasure in beating Alisa Camplin and Stephen Bradbury.'
Of course, Milton admits this is only the opinion of the Alpha team and the period they considered started in 1976. Still, it's quite an honour.
'Definitely one for mum's scrapbook,' said Milton with a smile. 'And, for the record, I won the little competition to guess who was number one. Warne is a no-brainer.'
