Five-time Paralympian Michael Milton is recovering in a Canberra hospital after suffering multiple fractures in a cycling accident on Friday.
Sources say Milton, who won a total of 22 international ski racing medals, including 12 gold, during a career spanning almost two decades, may have lost control of his bike on a busy street and collided with a garbage truck.
Milton has multiple fractures to his shoulder, ribs and spine but his injuries have not damaged his spinal cord. He is in a stable condition and is expected to make a full recovery.
A keen cyclist and adventure racer, he was due to take part in the 200km Denmark Adventure Race in West Australia next weekend and was looking forward to racing in his first triathlon in Noosa later this month. Milton has withdrawn from both.
