Michael Milton is one of Australia's most successful Paralympic or Olympic athletes.

He was the first Australian to win a winter Olympic or Paralympic gold medal at 19 years of age in 1992, competing in only his second Games.

In a career spanning almost 20 years, he has represented Australia at six Paralympic Games (five winter and one summer) and one Olympic Games (winter) and won 11 Paralympic medals, including six gold.

At the 2002 Salt Lake Winter Paralympic Games, Milton realised a ten-year goal, winning four gold medals, a clean-sweep of the alpine events in his class. The achievement was recognised 12 months later at the 2002 Laureus World Sports Awards when Michael was announced Sportsperson of the Year with a Disability.

In March 2006 at 33 years of age Milton competed in his fifth and last winter Paralympic Games in Torino, Italy. Although radical changes to the classification system severely reduced his chances of defending his four gold medals from the 2002 Salt Lake Games, Milton gave it his all and reached his goal of 'metal, one will do, any colour' when he won the silver medal in the Downhill on the first day of competition.
