Michael Milton appointed to Cancer Australia Advisory Council

24/7/2012 12:12 PM

Two-time cancer survivor and Paralympic champion, Michael Milton, has been appointed to Cancer Australia's Advisory Council.

"As a survivor of cancer both as an adult and a child, I hope I can bring some valuable personal insight to the Advisory Council. It's certainly a subject close to my heart.

"It's a real honour to be chosen and I'm looking forward to meeting and working with the other members," said Milton. The Advisory Council brings a wide spectrum of expertise, skills and experience to the organisation, including oncology, general practice, medical education, cancer research, nursing, Indigenous health, palliative care, international cancer control and personal experience of cancer.

Established under the Cancer Australia Act 2006, the Advisory Council provides advice to the Chief Executive Officer about the performance of Cancer Australia's functions. Members are appointed by the Minister for Health, Tanya Plibersek.

Cancer Australia was established by the Australian Government in 2006 to benefit all Australians affected by cancer, and their families and carers. Cancer Australia works to reduce the impact of cancer and improve the well-being of those diagnosed by ensuring that evidence informs cancer prevention, screening, diagnosis, treatment and supportive care.

Media release from the Minister for Health, The Hon Tanya Plibersek MP.
